Tutor: MARTIN BROOKS RP RCA
(the price includes delicious home cooked lunch and refreshments throughout the day)
The approach is - keeping the painting ‘open’, creating rhythm and unity through composition, gesture and brushwork.
Over the course of this workshop we will experiment with setting up our still lives, consider options for composition and lighting, looking at the relationship between objects and the space that surrounds them. We will explore gesture and form, keeping our paintings ‘open’, creating unity and rhythm through line, tone and colour.
Martin trained at the Royal College of Art where he was awarded the Royal College Drawing Prize and Madame Tussauds Prize for Figurative Art. A member of The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Martin’s work has been selected for the BP Portrait Award and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. Notable portraits include theoretical physicist and broadcaster Professor Jim Al-Khalili OBE for the British Humanist Association and singer and songwriter Laura Mvula. Martin has recently returned from the US after being awarded Arts Council funding to paint the Amish community.
