Drawing a space and space to draw! Ingres maintained “Drawing is the probity of art” and this workshop seeks to grasp the fundamentals of drawing from observation within the limits of a room.

We will explore interior space in drawing, taking in a wider angle of vision than we are perhaps used to, and thus provide the confidence and knowledge to draw larger spaces afterwards, such as a landscape or streetscape.

We will also investigate other aspects of drawing from observation to deepen our understanding of it; broadening our awareness of ways of looking at and perceiving a subject, and sharpening our skills of assessing relationships between the objects we are looking at. We will do various drawing exercises pertaining to all this, making both linear and tonal drawings. Hopefully this day will instil the criteria needed to approach the drawing of anything.
